St. Louis Traffic Club Golf Tournament
"A Great Day at Eagle Springs Golf Course"
Last Friday we held our yearly golf outing at Eagle
Springs in North St. Louis. Besides the first 20 minutes of annoying rain the day went off pretty much without a hitch.
Eagle Springs provided an excellent challenge for all. The course was in great shape, especially when considering
the brutal heat we endured for much of the late summer. A tip of our golf hats and visors to Mike and his staff there!
Because of the value they provided I would say we will be back there in the near future.
As usual the golf itself
was a mixed bag as some teams were very strong, and some were not. You might keep this in mind for future events---these
types of tournaments are more for fun, networking inside the industry, but can still provide some very good, competitive,
and challenging golf too. So if you are not a very good player, or not very experienced, please play anyway. One
woman played her first round there and they used her shot several times, and she said it was a blast!
In
case you didn't attend, we gave prizes to 24 players that won team award trophies, plus we distributed men and women drive
awards, and closest to the pins prizes for the entire set of par three's. Included was a $5,000 hole in one shot (no
winners), with the second place prize being a "flip camcorder." On this hole we collected for the St. Louis
Boys Club. Thanks to the funds collected on this hole, and the generosity of the LMS team that won the only skin and
donated a portion back, we were able to give the Boys Club $250. Thanks everyone for this. Another donation will
be made to our scholarship fund too for $500 due to the overall success of the event.
I want to send a BIG THANK
YOU to Steve Dale our Traffic Club Golf Co-Chairman from Emerson. Steve not only donated his time and expertise to this
event but also provided a fantastic raffle prize as well. Steve really stepped up and made this a success. Jeanne
Savel, from Energy Petroleum Company, has become a very reliable and incredibly helpful volunteer for pretty much every event.
Thanks Jeanne, we appreciate you! Bob Stanton was also a big help and as always, Brad Reinhardt for is normal dedicated
work. Jimmy Smith, from River Roads Sales and Leasing as always came through with a great Hockey Package for us to raffle
as well. Finally, Tom Wild of the Boys Club for his donations of golf apparel and Todd TeBrink from Alliance for his
golf ball donations. Last but not least Scott Huskey at Pacer for his fantastic gifts of putter and golf balls.
This
year we had an incredible amount of support from several companies who were our corporate sponsors. They were: The HUB
Group----Zipp Express---Demar Logistics-LMS. We also had many companies that were hole sponsors.
Thanks
to everyone! Next year the STL Traffic Club will be hosting the national conference so we should have a tournament with
perhaps a full 144 player field. The location has yet to be decided but it will be an upscale golf course that will
represent St. Louis the best. The tournament will be sometime in the 2nd week of September, so book your entry early
for that one.
Thanks again everyone,
AL Hursey
